Sharp develops a Five-primary-colour LCD which reproduces real surface colours

Sharp today announced that they have developed a five-primary-colour display that is according to them, faithfully reproducing the real surface colours that humans are capable of perceiving. The Full HD LCD screen uses a "Multi-Primary-Color Technology" that adds the colours cyan and yellow to the RGB-colours (Red, green and blue).  This combination expands the range of reproducible colours that can be rendered within the colour specterum that humans can see with the unaided eye. This will allowing the screen to reproduce more than 99% of real surface colours. The new technology will also be more energy efficient and energy saving. Read more

4K by 2K resolution, Ethernet-equipped HDMI 1.4 announced

A new version of HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) has been announced; HDMI 1.4. The new version has integreated Ethernet networking (10/100 Mb/s), support for bigger screen sizes and resolutions higher than 1080p, such as 3K by 2K (3840x2160 pixels) and 4K by 2K (4096x2160 pixels). 4K by 2K is enough resolution to transmit two 1080p images, allowing the technology to support stereoscopic 3D.

The new version also is more friendly with 3D technology and has a more compact connector. HDMI 1.4 will also be provided with extra wiring for two-way audio for the purpose of reducing cable clutter. Read more

JVC has announced a new super slim LCD TV monitor which is supposed to have a colour space that is wider than on typical HDTVs. The model is called JVC Xiview LT-42WX70 and is a 42-inches, 120Hz Full HD LCD TV targeted to digital imaging professionals and ethusiasts using high-end digital SLR (Single-lens reflex camera) cameras. The LT-42WX70 supports various color spaces with a very high coverage rate and offers 52 image quality adjustment properties for tweaking both still and moving images in precision. Read more

Microsoft has officially announced the next iteration of their portable mediaplayer Zune. The Zune HD will have a 3.3-inch 16:9 widescreen, a 480 x 272 pixels OLED capacative touchscreen display, a built-in HD radio receiver and HD output. The HD-compatible output lets the owner playback supported HD video files from the device through HDMI docking station direct to an HDTV in 720p. Zune HD will also have Wi-Fi support and a built-in Internet browser. Zune HD is expected to be released this fall.  

The Zune service where customers can experience and purchase media will have its video service extended to Xbox LIVE internationally this fall. Read more

Today, LG announced their latest 23 inch display which supports Full HD resolutions and is a 3D LCD monitor. The model has twice the brightness as the brightness found on conventional 3D LCD panels and is according to LG the 3D LCD panel with the highest brightness in the world. What's new with this monitor is that the user don't have to put on 3D glasses or have anything extra except the screen itself. The monitor works by using a time-sequential technology so that the right and left eyes se different images which makes the images look three dimensional. Read more

Seiko Epson today announced they have established an inkjet technology that enables the uniform deposition of organic material in the production of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TVs. The new technology is a step forward to the realization of 37-inch or larger OLED TVs with Full HD resolution.

The OLED-technology is believed to be the future for televisions because it has high contrast, wide viewing angle and fast response time, as well as the material is ultra-thin and have low power requirements. Read more

According to a IMS Research study called "Market Opportunities for Internet video to the TV", an estimated 65 million households worldwide had the capabillity of viewing Internet video on their television sets at the end of 2008. That is an increase by 134% since a year earlier. The vast majority of the toral Internet TV in households was displayed via a game console or proprietary device in 2007 and 2008.

It's expected that households using a PC to deliver Internet video to the TV set via a media centre PC and a media extender/digital media adapter will have a 85% combined annual growth reate through 2013 and reaching nearly 60 million households. One reason for this is that media centres is expected to drop as much as 15% in prices annually the next five years. Read more

According to a new survey done by Nielsen in February 2009, slightly more than 33% of American TV homes have at least one HDTV. This is an increase from November 2008 when that number was 29.2%. In February 2008 the number was 19.3% making the HDTV the TV technology most rapidly adopted since the colour TV was introduced 50 years ago. The growing adaption to the technology may be a result of the dropping prices. Read more

Mitsubishi has announced a new 24" LCD panel in Japan. The model has the name RDT241WEX and has a WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) and a IPS LCD Panel. RDT241WEX's contrast ratio is 900:1 but it has no HDMI connection, only one DVI-D and D-SUB connector. RDT241WEX will be released in Japan on June 5th with a price starting from € 532 ($ 732,6 USD). Panasonic has unveiled two camcorders in Japan; The TM350 and TM30. The TM350 is the first HD camcorder to have 64GB of flash memory, which can hold up to 16 hours of recorded video in Full HD 1080p in the AVCHD H.264-format. It also has a SDHC card slot for memory expansion and availabillity for 5.1-channel surround audio. The camera also has a still images option with 10.6 megapixels and a 12X optical zoom lens. 

The TM30-model has a lower price and has 32GB of flash memory, but a 16X zoom lens. According to Panasonic, it's the lightest camera with that storage capacity, weighing only 0.5 pounds. Both of the cameras will be out in Japan on June 25th with the prices starting from $1,568 for the TM350 and $1045 for the TM30. Read more

Even though the economic recently was globally shattered, most Chinese home entertainment product suppliers expect their sales to grow this year. As many as 47% of the asked in the report says they expect their sales to grow more than 20%.

According to Spenser Au, the publisher of the report- the prices has dropped for the LCD and plasma displays- increasing the global demand. The prices has not only dropped because of people is more likely to save their money, but because of the suppliers have to decrease prices for market share.In America, the HDTV-equipped homes doubled in 2008 to 23% of all households. Japanese JVC have developed a projector that supports so-called "Ultra High Definition images. The projector has about 4000 scanning lines and uses three units of JVCs D-ILA reflective LCD panel for each of the RGB Colours. The projector can display up to an massive 8192 x 4320 pixels, or approximately 35 Megapixel images and it can project sufficently bright images on screens as large as 400-600 inches with a contrast ratio of 5500:1. The new projector does not only project massive images, it also weighs 168 kg.

JVC has also announced a newly developed camera called "4K2K 60P", a camcorder which records in the resolution up to 3840x2160 pixels (4K x 2K) with a frame rate of 60 fps.
