LG announces new SL80 LCD and SL90 LED HDTVs

LG has announced two HDTVS: one LCD (SL80 series) and one LED (SL90 series). Both the SL80 and SL90 models are supposed to be ultra-slim with only 1.8 inches of thickness for the SL80 and 1.15 inches of thickness for the SL90.

The SL80 series LCD HDTVS have TruMotion 240 Hz and will be available in the sizes 42, 47 and 55 inches with starting price tags of $1,599.95, $1,899.95 and $2,799.95 USD respectively. LG SL80 new series will be released in the beginning of August 2009.

The SL90 series LED HDTVS will provide enhanced 1080p picture quality and energy efficiency and will be available in the sizes 42 and 47 inches. They will have a contrast ratio of 3 000 000:1 and feature LG's TruMotion 120 Hz. LG SL90 new series will be relased later in 2009 with a starting price yet to be announced. Read more

BSkyB has announced that they're going to launch Europe's first 3D TV channel next year. The 3D channel will offer movies, sports and enterteinment in UK where it will be first released. BSkyB earlier said that 3D TV would have to wait several years, but now it has become a closer reality as the subscribes doubled since last year to the Sky+ HD set-top boxes. The Sky+ HD set-top boxes are capable of 3D broadcasting and also have broadband capabillity, which BSkyB plans to use by launching a "pull" video-on-demand service. The new 3D broadcasting will of course require that the consumers have a "3D ready" TV, something that will be available on sale in the UK next year together with special glasses. Read more

Sharp and Sony has entered into an agreement called "Joint venture agreement" for producing and selling large-sized LCD panels and modules in a joint venture company together. On July 1, 2009, Sharp transfered their new LCD panel plant under construction and transfered it to their subsidiary Sharp Display Products Corporation (SDP). SDP will shift into full gear in October 2009 and in the end of 2009, Sony who owns 34% of SDP, will invest 10 billion Yen into SDP and in return make Sony a third-party owner. Read more

Alien Vs. Predator is the highly anticipated game by the same team behind the original from 1999. Like the old game, you will be able to play as aliens, predators or marines in a first person-perspective. Alien Vs. Predator will be released in the first quarter of 2010 on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Defense grid is a tower defense video game that is already out on PC since December 2008, but will now be released on Xbox Live Arcade this year.

Everio GZ-HM400 has a 10.3 Megapixel CMOS senror, a 2.8-inch LCD monitor and records onto the 32 Gigabytes built-in memory and a SDHC card slot (up to 32 Gigabytes). You can record up to 2 hours and 56 minutes in Full HD resolution at 24 MBps in UXP mode before you run out of internal memory. The recording is with a Konica Minolta HD Lens with 10X optical zoom and Everio GZ-HM400 has a technology called K2 for a better sound. Nikon has announced their new camera D300s, a digital SLR targeted to professional users, which combines still images photographing with HD video recording. D300s has a 12.3 Megapixel CMOS-sensor and can capture HD video in 720p at 24 fps. The images and videos are stored to one CompactFlash (CF) and one Secure Digital (SD) card separately. D300s features a 3 inch LCD screen and Nikon's exclusive EXPEED image processing which is supposed to ensure great quality for both still images and video while yet keeping a low level of power consumption. D300s's rechargeable Li-ion battery battery gives the user the capabillity of taking up to 2950 still image shots per charge.

Panasonic has announced a new series of Diga DVR (Digital Video Recorders) with six models. The DVRs will feature a Blu-ray recorder and for the DMR-BR670V-model, a VHS player(!). The Diga DVRs will come with internal harddrives in the sizes 320 Gigabytes/500 Gigabytes/1 Terabytes/2 Terabytes making the 2 TB model a world's first. The memory can also be expanded with the SDHC card slot.

The high-end model DMR-BW970 (on the picture), you will be able to record up to 320 hours of video in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec. The DVRs also supports audio formats such as Dolby True HD and DTS-HD. They can record on BD-RE, BD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD R DL and DVD-RW. Read more

Sony BDP-CX960 Blu-ray megachanger

Sony has announced BDP-CX960 and BDP-CX7000ES, two 400-disc Blu-ray disc MegaChangers. The megachanger models can store and play 400 Blu-ray, DVD or CD-titles which they believe will give the users a convenient and easy-to-access location for their media.

The megachangers also features the abillity to download information from Gracenote's MusicID and VideoID products for organizing of movies and music. When a disc is inserted in to the device, Gracenote information for the media is downloaded via the Internet. BDP-CX960 and BDP-CX7000ES supports upscaling from DVDs to 1080p through Sony's technology called "Precision Cinema HD Upscale". 
Both models also features access to BD-Live and an USB-port for extra storage. When it comes to audio, BDP-CX960 and BDP-CX7000ES supports all the HD formats you would expect, such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.  

Sony's BDP-CX960 will be released in Fall 2009 with a starting price of $ 800USD. Sony's BDP-CX7000ES will be released in August 2009 with a starting price of $1900 USD.
Sony BDP-S1000ES Blu-ray playerSony also announced the BDP-S1000ES which is a single disc, more traditional Blu-ray player. BDP-S1000ES has built in Wi-Fi and support for BD-Live. It also features Sony's Precision Cinema HD Upscaling-technology for upscaling DVDs to 1080p.
Sony's BDP-S1000ES will be released in August 2009 with a starting price of $700 USD. Read more

Silicon Images has introduced the first semiconducter products to incorporate the HDMI 1.4 specifications. The semiconductors are the SiI9387 port processor and the SiI9334 transmitter. The new technology will like HDMI 1.3 be able to carry Ethernet connectivity along with the HD audio and video. The HDMI 1.4 specification features:

- HDMI Ethernet Channel Devices using Silicon Image's chips will be able to transmit and recieve full duplex data at 100 Mb/s over one HDMI cable.
- Audio Return Channel which drives a high quality S/PDIF signal through a single HDMI cable, simplifying connectivity in home theatres. Silicon Image expects their HDMI 1.4 semiconductors SiI9387 port processor and the SiI9334 transmitter to be available for delivery in the second half of 2009. Read more

The models are called the LH90 series and are LED-backlit LCD HDTVs which will be available in the sizes 42, 47 and 55-inches. The LH90 series HDTVs features 1080p resolution, 240Hz refresh rate and a 2000 000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The 42-inch costs $1,899.95 USD, the 47-inch $2,399.95 USD and the 55-inch $3,199.95 USD. Blu-ray player shipments estimated to increase 112% in America 2009

Blu-ray disc players are expected to increase 112% by the end of 2009, according to a report from the Consumer Electronics Association. The increase will be reaching nearly 6 million and with revenues expected to top $1 billion, which is an increase of 48% compared to last year. HDTVs sales is expected to increase 8% by the end of 2009, however that revenue is expected to drop 6% to $ 24 billion because of the lower prices. This report is surprising because of Americans have bought more High-Definition hardware than last year despite the recession. Read more

Samsung has announced a Blu-ray HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) called HT-BD3252. HT-BD3252 comes with a 5.1 surround system that supports HD audio codecs such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Pro-Logic and DTS-HD Master Audio. The rear speakers are wireless and the system includes a mic for automatic calibration with Samsung's Auto Sound Calibration (ASC).

HT-BD3252 also have an integrated Blu-ray player which supports BD-Live and a Wi-Fi USB dongle is included so that the consumer can stream SD or HD content from Netflix and in the Fall 2009, from Blockbuster OnDemand. The user will also be able to stream media from the PC via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Samsung's HT-BD3252 will be released in August 2009 with a starting price of $ 799 USD. Read more

Panasonic has announced a new camcorder that uses the AVCHD codec for recording HD video: the AG-HMC45U AVCCAM. AG-HMC45U is a professional camcorder with a 3Mos progressive sensor (3.05 Megapixels) and it records in Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels at 24 MBps. It lets you record up to 180 minutes of 24 MBps on a 32 Gigabytes SDHC card.
