Silicon Images introduces the first HDMI 1.4 chips

Silicon Images has introduced the first semiconducter products to incorporate the HDMI 1.4 specifications. The semiconductors are the SiI9387 port processor and the SiI9334 transmitter. The new technology will like HDMI 1.3 be able to carry Ethernet connectivity along with the HD audio and video. The HDMI 1.4 specification features:

- HDMI Ethernet Channel Devices using Silicon Image’s chips will be able to transmit and recieve full duplex data at 100 Mb/s over one HDMI cable.
- Audio Return Channel which drives a high quality S/PDIF signal through a single HDMI cable, simplifying connectivity in home theatres. Silicon Image expects their HDMI 1.4 semiconductors SiI9387 port processor and the SiI9334 transmitter to be available for delivery in the second half of 2009. Read more
